شاید مهم ترین علت انتخاب این کتاب ، بکر بودن موضوع آن در کشور و خالی بودن آن در مباحث و دیالوگ های فلسفه اخلاق در کشور بوده است . یعنی از یک سو بحث اخلاق فضیلت محوردر غرب که از نیمه قرن بیستم تاکنون یکی از مطرح ترین نحله های مطرح در اخلاق هنجاری در غرب است ، از ضرورت معرفی به جوامع فلسفی ایران برخوردار است ، و از دیگر سو اهمیت نویسنده این کتاب و اثرگذاری این کتاب در مجامع علمی - دانشگاهی مغرب زمین این ضرورت را افزون می سازد.
